Budget Rent a Car is a car rental company that was founded in 1958 in Los Angeles, California by Morris Mirkin.

The company was eventually acquired by Transamerica Corporation, and then sold in 1986 in a leveraged buyout by Gibbons, Green and van Amerongen Ltd., along with management and selected investors.

which took the name Budget Group.

In 2002 the company's assets were sold to Cendant Corp., which also owns Avis Rental Car. In September 2006 both BudgetRentalCar and Avis were spun off by Cendant as a separate company, Avis Budget Group.

Founded in 1957, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is headquartered in St. Louis and has more than 7,000 offices in the UK, Germany, Ireland, the United States and Canada. Enterprise RentACar started in the UK in 1994 and has rapidly expanded. It currently has over 300 locations across the UK and Ireland and employs more than 3,500 staff. Ninety-one percent of the UK population has an Enterprise branch less than ten miles away.

Budget Rent-A-Car joins Air Miles in Canada
27 Dec 2006 - Alliance Data Systems (ADS) and Budget Rent-A-Car have signed a multi-year agreement for Budget to participate as a sponsor and reward supplier in the Canadian Air Miles Reward program. Under terms of the agreement, Budget will offer Air Miles reward miles to its customers from January 2007 at participating Budget car and truck rental locations across Canada. In addition, Budget Rentacar will become a reward supplier in the program, so collectors will be able to redeem miles for car rentals at nearly 300 Budget locations in Canada.
